Seven Horses
The beginning
The setting of a cove opening instantly gives the feeling of mystery. I love paintings which you can look deeply at; and this is a prime example. Can you spot all seven horses within the picture? The detail in the wave formation and clouds are amazing. This is definitely a favourite of mine.

Nobody has any real idea what our planet looked like in the earlier stages of formation so we can only guess. That's why I like this piece - it simply depicts one person's metal vision of the beginning of the earth. He decides to show a waterscape, which is a reasonable thing since the earth was extensively covered with water before the ice age. The water is gushing from various levels and the resulting energy the picture is immense. The atmosphere is also very unstructured and I like the way the artist depicted this with the spherical shape formed from the reflecting sunlight seeping through the thick cloud.

Dimension of dreams
Sanctuary
Dreaming is one of life's big mysteries and this picture shows just that. I like the idea of being in water because the feeling of drifting off to sleep could be considered similar to floating in water and falling. Also the feeling of waking up could be connected with swimming towards the light above the water's surface. This means that the environment already relates to the two in-between states of dreaming. I like the goblin type creatures in the distance, which are hard to see because a lot of dreams are like that but in a mental rather than visual blur. The bird perched on the floating dress is clever and indicates that the only limit to dreaming is ones imagination. Finally the panther type animal by her side to me shows the sense of security that you feel when you are asleep.

A sanctuary is a holy place of which worship takes place. It doesn't have to be a church, chapel, mosque or anything like that. It is simply a place where you can become mentally enlightened. This picture definitely suggests such a place with that small shelter positioned on the side of that enormous waterfall. There are no signs of life for miles and the use of warm reds, etc in the sky and on that unconventional rainbow help towards the desired effect.

Secret kingdome
The smeary style of painting and use of colour really help to give a kind of misty effect. The temple is obviously the main subject of the paint and is lit by the passing sunlight for this very reason. Placing it slightly off centre helps to draw the eye to the rest of the painting too.
This castle in this painting is a cross between Willy Wonkers Umer Lumpa land and some Asian palace. Those weird flying creatures and the mermaid add to the fantasy of this setting!
From the sea
The dragon guard
This picture is something else! The wash of the wave progressively forming the shapes of horses symbolises the power the sea has. The relationship between horses and the sea is for some reason very popular. The best example being that beer advert where the horses are racing over that massive wave.
This picture is a lot more exciting than your average dragon themed painting. The dragon here is guarding that flying fortress. The two figures add to the drama of it and you can imagine they have just been on a big epic adventure to find the place. The light shining through that dark cloud adds extra power and importance to the castle.

Unicorn in the clouds
Daddy longlegs of the evening hope
What can I say; this is probably what everyone would describe as their image of a unicorn. Again the atmosphere is increased with the use of light passing through he clouds.
I haven't got a clue what the title means but this is one of my favourite pieces from the surrealist king, Dali. Complete with trademark melting objects!!! A horse is again used as a symbol of power, this time flying out of a barrel of a gun.
Homesickness
Rainbow fantasy
The person looking sadly into the distance due to his homesickness is totally oblivious to the lion that funnily enough is feeling the exact same emotion. Very surreal, very surreal indeed. But never the less its extremely clever!!!
This unicorn painting is probably one of the most exciting of its kind. To increase the over all fantasy of the picture; the unicorn has managed to reach the rainbow. This has in turn resulted in an amazing reflection of colour.

Temple
The House of Horror
This flying temple is really exciting and has an eerie and mysterious feel to it. It is definitely situated nowhere near Earth because there are two moons visible. The question is where does that water come from?
I love this painting because like a lot of horror films, it has a strong green tone and all red has been taken out. This adds to the chill factor because when blood is eventually shed, it will be very dramatic and visually clear. The water at the front and the enormous dark entrance make this mansion very uninviting.

About this page.....
Iv'e loved fantasy art for a while now so I decided to devote a whole page to it. As you can see they are often very detailed peices. They are true works of art and are very beautiful. I think this type of art is a lot more creative than your usual still life or portrait. These pictures are in a leauge of their own.
